Offices and Initiatives

Office of Equity and Civil Rights

UMBC’s Office of Equity and Civil Rights promotes and coordinates the university’s core values of inclusive excellence, equity, and diversity. ECR has primary responsibility for managing UMBC’s efforts related to Title IX as well as other civil rights issues, including discrimination, harassment, hate, and bias.

The office’s mission is to not only ensure compliance through prompt, fair investigations, education and training, and outreach and engagement but also to foster an inclusive and accessible environment for all members of our campus community.

Community and Culture

DOIE serves Retriever students, faculty, and staff and works with all campus constituencies to make sure their voices are heard and reflected in holistic programming efforts. Unifying a diverse array of existing and new positions and offices allows UMBC to send a clear message to current and future Retrievers: At UMBC, you are valued as a whole person.

  • Center for Social Justice Dialogue: The Center for Social Justice Dialogue transforms education by engaging campus community members in developing the knowledge, awareness, and skills necessary to build bridges across difference toward a more loving and just world.
  • The Women’s Center: The Women’s Center at UMBC advances gender equity from an intersectional feminist perspective through co-curricular programming, support services, and advocacy for marginalized individuals and communities.

Accessibility and Disability Services

Diversity and inclusion are fundamental values at UMBC, and Accessibility and Disability Services are committed to providing access to individuals with disabilities in all of the university’s programs, activities, and services.
